It depends upon how near sighted you are. In many cases, the military is actually doing laser surgery on the service people who qualify. My son is in the US Army. He was evaluated for laser surgery. He passed. He is waiting for his turn to come up.
my friend wanted to get that done…the eye Doctor said that it works for 2 years but then it MIGHT go back to normal after that…then uve wasted all That money for 2 years.
If you want to go into the Air Force, DONT GET EYE SURGERY.
You need to become an officer in the Air Force, and, say you are admitted to the Air Force Academy, then they will GIVE YOU LASIK or PRK surgery.
If you do it yourself from a private doctor, then they will disqualify you.
If you think that laser is your best bet, by all means- go for it..
However, be prepared to use reading glasses as you enter your 40′s.
If the military is going to pay for a costly procedure- this might be the BEST reason to choose laser.. but their is another alternative (more pricey) but also it’s REVERSIBLE.

With the laser surgery, they are cutting away your eye-and once gone, it’s gone.
With the implantable lenses- they can be removed.

Pros: reversible- ability to see near does not change (other then how nature had intended)
Cons: more expensive, as you age, you may need to swap out the implant as your eye site gets worse (same with laser? don’t’ know)
Laser:
Pros: cheaper, end result same as the lens.. for a while
Cons:as you age, your ability to see near (to read) will go, and you will need reading glasses.

Lasik eye surgery is rather safe if only you are a suitable candidate. As with any surgery, there is a definite risk incurred. You must be screened for suitability and examined by the doctor personally. (Not the sales team to mislead you to get expensive package deal).
If you are a suitable candidate, the risk maybe :-
1.)Dry eyes (temporary)
2.)Regression/ enhancement
3.)Infection (3-5/20,000 for the next 3 weeks)
4.)Flap/ complication of treatment (rare)
5.)Miscellaneous
A suitable candidate for Lasik surgery, it depends on:-
1.)Your corneal thickness
2.)Your power
3.)Your age
4.)A centre with a doctor who is examining your eyes personally
5.)Torough explanation to suit your lifestyle
Always insist on seeing the doctor performing the surgery for you. It is the due deligent of him or her to present the risk and benefit to you in detail personally.
