My girlfriend got a tattoo a few months ago, and has since decided against it…yeah, one of those bad ideas gone awry. Anyhow, she wants something that will do the job, but not be expensive. I know of laser treatments, but they are expensive and can leave scars. Anyone know of any other methods of removal such as creams or ointments that will fade it away?

All of my treatments were done with a Q-YAG laser at a 532 wavelength, and all were done above 900 Volts. Anyone had experience with a CO2 laser and tattoos?

The Q-YAG laser is much newer and better technology than the CO2 laser. It’s pretty much universally accepted as the best laser possible.
The CO2 laser was around in the 80′s and is known for being extremely painful, almost always leaving noticeable scaring and overall, not going a good job at actually removing the ink. Certain colors it wouldn’t work on at all. I googled this laser and found pics of it’s typical results, very nasty scars and major skin discoloration amongst a half removed tattoo.
One of my friends had 7 treatments done on her tattoo with the Q laser and all it did was dull the colors and blur the outline. Overall, it didn’t put a dent in actually removing the tattoo.
The laser removal seems to be very person to person. Some people it works great, some people it’s so-so, some people it seems to be almost useless.

i think a sunhat will be my loyal companion this summer, otherwise my freckles will take over my entire face so bad that all you’ll see is one big brown irreversible patch of hyperpigmentation. somehow i doubt anyone will think it’s cute anymore (plus laser treatments seriously hurt like a bitchin’ mofo!)

Hi,
It just depends on your skin and the ink used. Red ink is the worst to take out, so it’s good you don’t have that.
Colored inks can be harder to get out than black ink. That being said, I’m surprised you haven’t had better results yet after 9 treatments. I’m assuming you’re doing part of the tattoo at a time?
As long as you’re seeing improvement and waiting long enough between sessions, you should hopefully be mostly rid of the tattoo soon. Good luck.

My wife has been quietly going to a laser specialist. She didn’t say why, but I think she’s having her tattoo removed. It was on her thigh and I think she doesn’t want our two daughters to grow up seeing it.
If it is for her tattoo, how many times will she go before it is all gone? It was about 3 inches by 2 inches, with two or three colors.

No way for us to know. It varies for a lot of reasons. The quality of pigment used, the amount of scarring at the site of the tattoo, the strength of the laser (like how high it is turned up), the skill of the technician, how well your wife sticks to her aftercare instructions, etc. etc.
